About the Recipe

Chocolate for breakfast always feels a little indulgent, but these Chocolate Berry Overnight Oats strike the perfect balance between wholesome and satisfying. Creamy oats soak overnight with Greek yoghurt, milk, chia seeds and Cadbury drinking chocolate, creating a rich, softly chocolatey base that is ready to enjoy straight from the fridge in the morning.

Fresh or frozen berries add brightness and natural sweetness, while a sprinkle of almonds brings just the right amount of crunch. It is an effortless make-ahead breakfast that takes only minutes to prepare the night before.

INGREDIENTS

¼ cup quick rolled oats

1 tsp Cadbury drinking chocolate

1 tsp chia seeds

¼ cup Greek yoghurt

¼ cup milk

½ tsp honey

½ cup mixed berries (fresh or frozen)

1 tsp almonds, roughly chopped

METHOD

1.

In a small jar or bowl, combine the oats, drinking chocolate, and chia seeds.

2.

Stir in the Greek yoghurt and milk until smooth and well combined.

3.

Add the honey for natural sweetness, then gently fold in the berries.

4.

Cover and refrigerate overnight, or for at least 6 hours, allowing the oats to soften and the flavours to meld.

5.

In the morning, give the mixture a light stir, top with chopped almonds, and serve chilled.

Tips

Use quick rolled oats. Quick oats soften beautifully overnight and create a creamy texture. Traditional rolled oats can also be used, but the finished oats will have slightly more bite.

Frozen berries are ideal for overnight oats. As they thaw in the fridge they release their juices into the oats, adding natural sweetness and extra flavour. Plus, they are usually much cheaper!

Adjust the sweetness to taste. Cadbury drinking chocolate already adds a little sweetness, so the honey simply rounds out the flavour. If you prefer a sweeter breakfast, add an extra drizzle in the morning.

Choose a jar or airtight container. Preparing overnight oats in a jar makes them easy to store, transport and eat straight from the container. It is also ideal if you are making breakfast ahead for busy mornings.

Add toppings just before serving. Nuts are best added in the morning so they stay crisp and provide contrast against the creamy oats.
