Start your day with a healthy bagel that packs flavour and a little heat. This spicy avocado and feta combo is creamy, tangy, and irresistibly moreish, with a simple chilli kick that lifts every bite. Perfect for breakfast, brunch, or a quick, satisfying snack.
Quick to make but full of texture and taste, this recipe turns everyday bagels into something special. The smooth smashed avocado pairs beautifully with salty feta and a hint of spice, while optional fresh coriander adds a bright, herby finish.
INGREDIENTS
2 bagels (such as plain, sesame, or everything)
2 ripe avocados
1 tbsp extra virgin olive oil
1 tbsp lemon juice
40g feta, crumbled
1 tsp chilli flakes
¼ tsp sea salt flakes, plus extra to finish
Freshly cracked black pepper, to taste
Fresh coriander, chopped, to serve (optional)
METHOD
1.
Toast the bagel halves until golden, then leave to cool until just warm.

Halve the avocados, remove the stones, and scoop the flesh into a bowl. Mash with a fork until creamy and smooth.

Stir in olive oil, lemon juice, and ¼ tsp sea salt flakes until well combined.

Spread the smashed avocado evenly over each bagel half.
5.
Top with crumbled feta and a generous sprinkle of chilli flakes.
6.
Finish with extra sea salt flakes and freshly cracked black pepper. Scatter over fresh coriander if using.

Serve immediately and enjoy.
Tips
Choose ripe avocados. Look for ones that give slightly under gentle pressure for the creamiest, smoothest spread.
Adjust the chilli kick. Start with 1 tsp of chilli flakes and add more to suit your heat preference. You can even sprinkle a little smoked paprika for a smoky twist.
Add herbs. Fresh coriander is optional, but it adds a fragrant, herby lift. Mint or parsley work well too.
