About the Drink
Few drinks capture the feeling of a relaxed afternoon quite like an Aperol Spritz. Light, sparkling and gently bittersweet, it’s the cocktail that defines Italian aperitivo culture. With its vibrant orange colour and refreshing citrus notes, it’s designed for slow sipping before dinner.
The beauty of an Aperol Spritz is its simplicity. Just three ingredients, plenty of ice and a good prosecco are all you need. Served in a large wine glass and finished with a splash of soda water, it’s crisp, refreshing and effortlessly elegant.
INGREDIENTS
60 ml Aperol
90 ml prosecco
30 to 60 ml soda water
Ice
Orange slice, to garnish (optional)
METHOD
1.
Fill a large balloon wine glass generously with ice.
2.
Pour in the prosecco, then add the Aperol.
3.
Top with soda water to taste and stir gently to combine.
4.
Gently squeeze the orange slice over the drink to release its oils, then drop it in as garnish. Serve immediately.
Tips
Use plenty of ice. A spritz should always be served very cold. Fill the glass right to the top with ice to keep the drink crisp and refreshing.
Add prosecco first. Pouring the prosecco before the Aperol helps the drink mix naturally without losing too much carbonation.
Choose a dry prosecco. A brut or extra dry prosecco works best to balance Aperol’s natural sweetness.
Adjust the soda water. Use less soda for a stronger drink or a little more if you prefer it lighter and extra refreshing.
