Margarita
Fresh lime, tequila and orange liqueur shaken hard and served with a salted rim.
COCKTAIL
1 DRINK
MARGARITA/COUPE
ABOUT THE DRINK
A Margarita only has a few ingredients, so freshness matters. Tequila, lime and orange liqueur need to be sharp, cold and properly balanced, with the salted rim doing its quiet little job in every sip.
THE POUR
Ingredients
50 ml tequila
25 ml fresh lime juice
20 ml orange liqueur (triple sec)
Lime wedge, for rimming the glass
Salt, for the rim
Lime slice, for garnish
Method
1.
Run a lime wedge around the rim of a small margarita or coupe glass. Dip into salt until lightly coated.
2.
Fill a cocktail shaker with ice. Add tequila, fresh lime juice, and orange liqueur.
3.
Shake hard until the outside of the shaker feels properly frosted.
4.
Strain into your prepared glass.
5.
Finish with a lime slice perched on the rim or resting against the glass.
SAMANTHA'S NOTES
Use fresh lime
Salt lightly
Fresh lime juice is non-negotiable in a margarita. It gives the drink its sharp, clean edge.
Rim the glass lightly rather than heavily. You want the salt to lift the drink, not make every sip taste like seawater.
Shake hard
Shake until the outside of the shaker feels properly cold. A margarita should land icy, sharp and bright.
